Dance: A Resource for Year 11 General is written specifically in accordance with School Curriculum and Standards Authority guidelines for students studying the Year 11 General Dance Course. This book focuses on the two units Exploring the components of dance and Dance as entertainment. Intended as a workbook, it is packed with relevant activities and information. There is space for students to record written responses and reflect on choreographic processes attempted. Students are introduced to dance concepts in easy to understand language, and the range of activities allows teachers to select activities relevant to the context chosen for the class, or for students to work independently.

Sian Chapman has taught dance for over twenty years after graduating from the Western Australia Academy of Performing Arts (WAAPA). She was responsible for the state wide testing of the Arts through Monitoring Standards in Education and worked as a syllabus writer for the Department of Education. More recently, Sian has worked in primary schools teaching dance and tutoring at Notre Dame University and Murdoch University. Sian is currently completing a PhD, looking at arts and implementation processes and practices for classroom primary teachers. Melanie Jasper has taught dance in Western Australian schools, including the Special Dance Courses at Balcatta SHS and Girrawheen SHS, since 1984 and has contributed to the development of dance curriculum and resources since that time. Currently, she is a Senior Consultant at the School Curriculum and Standards Authority. Melanie is the co-author of the current Course of Study in Dance and has been involved in developing sample exams and resources links to the course as well as co-writing he Curriculum Guides for Dance. As a long time board member of Steps Youth Dance Company, Melanie continues to support young people in Dance. Ruth Sutherland graduated from WACAE with a Bachelor of Education in Physical Education in 1983, and has subsequently been teaching Dance and Physical Education in Western Australian schools since. Ruth has been a member of the CAC Dance committee (School Curriculum and Standards Authority) since 1987 and has been the Chair for several years. She has contributed to Dance education through assisting and providing a number of curriculum materials and resources. Ruth has worked with the Department of Education to produce Monitoring Standards in Education, Making Consistent Judgements, co-written planning documentation, writing teacher stories, Curriculum Guides, co-written Dive into Dance and The Next Step. Ruth has been involved in undertaking action research into the Dance Course of Study.
